DAY6 Beginner’s Guide: Members & 4 Songs to Start With
New to DAY6? Start with “Time of Our Life” for bright pop-rock, or “Zombie (English Ver.)” if you want to follow the words directly. This Korean band puts guitar, bass, keyboards and drums at the center of its sound, making it a useful starting point if you already enjoy bands but have only begun exploring Korean music.
This guide introduces the four current members and four songs with different emotional starting points: anticipation, a remembered relationship, the wish to feel happy, and the fatigue of repeating the same day. Choose the mood that interests you first.
| If you want… | Start here | What makes it different |
|---|---|---|
| Bright, forward-looking rock | Time of Our Life (2019) | A new relationship imagined as a shared story. |
| An emotional breakup song | You Were Beautiful (2017) | Looks back at the beautiful moments after love has ended. |
| Pop-punk energy with a vulnerable message | HAPPY (2024) | The title hides a more complicated wish for happiness. |
| A song sung in English | Zombie (English Ver.) (2020) | Emotional exhaustion, with English lyrics on screen. |
Who are DAY6? Meet the four current members
DAY6 debuted under JYP Entertainment on September 7, 2015, with The Day. Today, the official profile lists Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon. Their fans are called My Day, a name used in JYP’s Fourever album notes.
The instruments are an easy way to begin recognizing the members in performances. You can learn the names while following how the guitar, bass, keyboard parts and drums fit together.
| Member | Instrument | A simple recognition cue |
|---|---|---|
| Sungjin | Guitar | A vocalist playing guitar. |
| Young K | Bass | A vocalist playing bass. |
| Wonpil | Keyboards | A vocalist at the keyboard setup. |
| Dowoon | Drums | At the drum kit. |

Four DAY6 songs to start with
1. Time of Our Life — for an optimistic first impression
“Time of Our Life” is my first recommendation if you want an approachable melody with a strong rock sound. The 2019 title track from The Book of Us : Gravity treats the beginning of a relationship as the opening pages of a story the two people will write together.
JYP’s album description emphasizes hope, confidence and familiar melodies carried by powerful rock. That combination makes this a useful introduction to DAY6’s brighter side. Follow it with “HAPPY” to hear a more conflicted message inside another energetic song.

2. You Were Beautiful — for the emotional rock side
If you prefer a song that looks backward, choose “You Were Beautiful.” Released in Every DAY6 February in 2017, it remembers a former relationship through the moments that made the other person beautiful.
The official release notes describe pop chord progressions meeting powerful rock in a dramatic arrangement. Its emotional focus is what remains in memory after a breakup. Pair it with “Zombie (English Ver.)” if the reflective mood appeals to you, but you want a different subject and lyrics in English.

3. HAPPY — when an energetic song has a sadder center
“HAPPY,” a 2024 song from Fourever, is a good choice if melodic pop-punk is already part of your listening habits. The album notes describe alternative rock with melodic pop-punk elements, while the narrator struggles to feel happy as obstacles grow.
That tension gives the title its meaning: the song expresses a wish for happiness. The official live clip below also gives you a performance to connect with the four-member instrument table. For a contrasting follow-up, return to the more hopeful “Time of Our Life.”

4. Zombie (English Ver.) — for following the meaning directly
For English-speaking newcomers, this is the most direct lyrical starting point in the guide. “Zombie (English Ver.)” is sung in English and appears on the 2020 album The Book of Us : The Demon, alongside the Korean title-track version.
The song centers on emotional emptiness and the weariness of moving through repetitive days. JYP’s release notes describe a hip-hop-based rhythm, ballad-like chords and a rock sound. The official lyric video makes the words easy to follow. Once its meaning clicks, “You Were Beautiful” offers another reflective song through a relationship story.

What to try after your first song
Choose two songs with different moods before working through whole albums. “Time of Our Life” and “Zombie (English Ver.)” make a useful first pair: one moves toward a shared future, while the other describes feeling stuck. Add the “HAPPY” live clip when you want to match the names to the musicians.
