NMIXX Explained: MIXX POP, Members and First Songs

NMIXX build their music around combinations: rap and R&B, hip-hop and pop punk, or country instruments inside a pop track. New to the group? Start with “Love Me Like This” for a rhythm-led introduction, “DASH” for contrasting styles, or “Run For Roses” for their vocal range.

What is MIXX POP?

MIXX POP is NMIXX’s term for combining two or more genres within one song. JYP introduced the idea with their debut single AD MARE in 2022. The useful question for a first listen is: what changes when a different musical style enters?

“DASH” gives you a concrete example: its official introduction pairs old-school hip-hop and a prominent bassline with pop punk. “Love Me Like This” combines bouncy rap with R&B vocal lines. Both belong to the group’s approach, but the ingredients are different. You can enjoy the combination without memorizing a genre name for every section.

For a new listener, that variety is the reason to try more than one song. If the first track does not suit your taste, another may give you a different route into the same six-member group.

Which NMIXX song should you start with?

Our first pick is “Love Me Like This.” Its rap-and-R&B combination gives you a clear starting point before exploring wider contrasts. The choices below are based on musical ingredients described in JYP’s official album introductions.

“Love Me Like This”: begin with the rhythm

The mix here is carried by rap, percussion and R&B-style singing. Rather than making the concept your homework, use the track as an invitation: decide whether that combination appeals to you. Watch JYP’s official music video, then move to “DASH” if you want to explore a different kind of contrast. The song is the title track of expérgo.

“DASH”: hear the contrast—and the harmonies

Alongside its hip-hop and pop-punk combination, JYP highlights the song’s layered chorus harmonies. That gives you two reasons to choose it: the arrangement’s changes and the voices working together. Open the official DASH video. If the vocal layers draw you in, try “Run For Roses” next; both songs appear on Fe3O4: BREAK.

“Run For Roses”: take the country-pop route

Banjo, violin and electric guitar give this track a different instrumental palette. Its official description also emphasizes the distance between low opening vocals and high ad-libs—extra vocal phrases around the main melody. Listen to the official studio audio. Then hear the same song in the Tiny Desk Korea set below, where a band arrangement offers another perspective.

“Heavy Serenade”: continue into the 2026 catalog

Released on May 11, 2026, Heavy Serenade takes the mix in another direction. JYP describes the title track as combining trance, acid and drum-and-bass elements before a rock-driven final chorus. Those are electronic dance styles; the ending gives you a specific contrast to listen for. Watch the official Heavy Serenade video, then explore its six-track EP if this combination is your favorite.

Watch NMIXX with a live band

If you are curious about the voices behind the studio arrangements, NPR Music’s NMIXX: Tiny Desk Korea is a useful next stop. The roughly 26-minute set features a band and begins with “Love Me Like This,” “DASH” and “Run For Roses,” then continues with “See that?” and “Love Is Lonely.”

That overlap makes it a practical companion to this guide. Pick one familiar song and compare how the band and vocal parts work together in this setting. NPR’s producer describes the set as recorded in one take, using the room’s natural acoustics for the singers to hear themselves and the band.

Watch the full official NPR Music upload on YouTube. Tiny Desk Korea is an international edition made through NPR and LG U+; this is the Korean production, rather than a performance at NPR’s Washington desk.

From there, follow what interested you most: the album behind a favorite track, more band performances, or the members themselves. If you want to read their Korean names in captions, our Hangul guide for K-pop fans explains how Korean letters fit into syllable blocks.
