Korean Shoe Sizes: Why 240 Is Not One US Size
A Korean shoe size such as 240 does not have one universal US equivalent. Check the brand’s chart, its men’s or women’s category, and the separate foot-length measurement before choosing a size.
If you are shopping in Seoul or looking for sneakers to finish an idol-inspired outfit, a quick conversion can miss an important detail: Nike Korea’s men’s chart lists KR 240 twice, against two different US sizes.

What does Korean size 240 equal in US, UK and EU sizes?
The answer depends on the exact chart. Here are three entries assembled from Nike Korea’s official men’s and women’s footwear guides.
| Chart entry | KR (mm) | US men | US women | UK | EU |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Men’s chart: first 240 entry | 240 | 5.5 | 7 | 5 | 38 |
| Men’s chart: second 240 entry | 240 | 6 | 7.5 | 5.5 | 38.5 |
| Women’s chart | 240 | 5.5 | 7 | 4.5 | 38 |
Values are reproduced as listed, including the different UK entries. The US men/women columns are chart cross-references; they do not promise identical fit or width between footwear categories.
So “I wear 240” is incomplete information for this comparison. Keep the model and chart category attached to the number, especially when a seller shows only one sizing system.
A metric size label is not the same as a measured foot
As a unit conversion, 24 cm = 240 mm. That arithmetic does not establish which shoe to order. Nike explicitly warns that the CM size printed on a box or label differs from measured foot length.
Another useful example comes from the adidas US footwear chart: its JP 240 entry is paired with heel-to-toe length 23.8 cm, US men 6, US women 7, UK 5.5 and EU 38⅔. That field is labelled JP, not KR. It illustrates why a printed metric size and a physical measurement must be read separately, rather than relabelled as one interchangeable scale.
The Korean term 발 길이 means “foot length”; 발볼 means foot width. If you measured your foot yourself, look for “Foot Length,” “Heel-toe” or 발 길이 in the guide—not simply the nearest CM, JP or KR label.
Start from the information you actually have
- You already own a comfortable pair. Record the brand, model and full size label, including whether US means men’s or women’s. Use that as a reference when checking the new model’s official guide.
- You know only your foot measurement. Follow the chosen brand’s measuring instructions. Nike’s women’s guide says to measure both feet on paper, use the longer result and choose the larger size when between chart sizes.
- The listing says only “240” or “US 7.” Ask for the model’s chart or complete label before ordering. Confirm whether the product uses a men’s, women’s, unisex or children’s guide.

Check width and fit after converting
A size conversion is only a starting point for a fitting. New Balance’s US size and width guide labels men’s standard width D and wide width 2E, while women’s standard width is B and wide is D. Even a width letter needs its category.
That guide recommends trying both feet, checking for a secure heel without slipping, a snug rather than tight midfoot, and room to move your toes. For an outfit you will wear walking or standing, our editorial advice is to try the actual pair with the socks you plan to wear. For an online order, read that seller’s exchange conditions before paying.
Three useful sentences for a Korean shoe shop
| Korean sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 이 모델의 사이즈표를 보여 주세요. | Please show me this model’s size chart. |
| 240과 245를 신어 볼 수 있나요? | May I try sizes 240 and 245? |
| 발볼이 넓은 모델도 있나요? | Do you also have a model with a wider fit? |
You can show the sentence on your phone and point to the size. The useful choice is the pair that fits your day; you do not need an artist’s exact brand to borrow a silhouette or colour combination.
